Take That Step

Take That Step

Not knowing the outcome of our choices and actions can sometimes prevent us from making critical choices. The more we have to lose, the more difficult it is for us to make those choices. Sometimes fear sets in, and we do not take that vital step that will propel us to our destiny.

So Many Unknowns

Sometimes, we have to make choices about our education, careers, family, travel, illness, and much more. The major problem we face is not about actually doing the thing or our ability to do it, but we are more concerned about the end result. Will I achieve my objectives? For example, you may want to study for your bachelor’s. You want to do this so you can get a job in your desired career. The unanswered question that torments you is, “will I get a job in the career after spending three years of studying and at the cost of thousands of dollars?” Is it worth it? Will I be able to pay off my student loan and at the same time afford a vehicle and pay for a home? How will this financial burden affect my family and children?  So many questions about the future and no sure answer.

The answers to those questions are all future-based, and we cannot know them with any certainty. Take, for example, my friend Junior who wanted to be a professional accountant. After spending three years of full-time study and thousands of dollars, he could not get a job. Junior ended up having to work as a laborer on a construction site. He needed to pay some of the bills, so he took the job. That was not the outcome he desired.

Only God knows our future. Jeremiah 29:11 states, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Junior prayed to God, and God certainly had grand plans for Him. Eight months later, he got an accountant position with an accounting firm. Five years after that, he received a position as a lecturer at a prestigious university. It is stated in Proverbs 19:21, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.“

Don’t Let Fear Cripple You

Having Jesus in our lives is extremely important because His promises are good and true. When you lay your burdens and your anxieties at His feet, you will experience peace. The heavy burdens and fears in your heart and mind He will remove. Jesus states in Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

You are afraid because you do not know, for sure, what will happen if you take that step or make that decision. You are not certain of the outcome. There are so many unanswered questions, and that scares you.

I want you to know that Moses was also scared, but he went forward in faith, believing that God would work it out.

Abraham was 75 years old when God called him (Genesis 12:4 NIV). He didn’t have a clue what would happen, but he obeyed and took that step of faith

Joseph was a slave (Genesis 39:1) and later isolated in prison (Genesis 39:20) for many years, yet when God called him, he took the step. In less than an hour, he was able to speak to Pharoah like he had a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Meteorology.

Stepping Out in Faith

I say all of that to say that it doesn’t matter how much knowledge or experience you have. You can never be sure of your outcome. It doesn’t matter that you don’t know. You can never, ever, know enough. Your confidence must be in God, not your education or your position.

The most famous Evangelist of the nineteenth century was Pastor D. L Moody. He is credited with leading over a million people to God in his pastoral life. Yet, he only had four years of education and sold shoes for his uncle before turning to God.

What matters is understanding this one single thing. You are only made perfect in God. God guarantees your results when you trust in Him.

So do not fear, and step forward in faith, believing that God will give you the desired results. He will give you victory. This is your only guaranteed option. All other options are plagued with insecurities and failures.

Have a super blessed day, and remain in the Shadow of the Almighty!
